The Sutherland Shire has been identified as an area of high need with limited support for eating disorder sufferers and their families currently available. In response to this need, EDF has embarked on hosting a free community forum for families and friends in the region and establishing a recovery group for eating disorder sufferers (for information about the recovery group please see the support group page from this website).
The Family and Friends Forum aims to raise awareness and understanding about eating disorders from both professional and personal perspectives. It is a great way for parents, partners, siblings and friends to gain deeper insight into what having an eating disorder is really like for the sufferer and to fully grasp the severity of this mental illness. It will also provide them important information and the relevant contacts regarding treatment options.
Speakers will include:
- Kogarah based psychologist Sandi Hill, who has specialised in Eating Disorders for the past 10 years, talking about what is an eating disorder?, Signs and symptoms to look out, and treatment options available.
- Sarah Mc Mahon EDF psychologist, who will talk about the role of EDF and the services which we offer to support families and suffers of eating disorders.
- Annalise Pippard and Rachel Palmer, who are both from the Sutherland Shire and have both recovered from Eating Disorders, will speak about their own personal journeys, and provide some insight into the reality of eating disorders and how the mind of a sufferer works.
Family and Friends forum will be held Monday evening, 31st March at The Sutherland District Trade Union Club – ‘Tradies’ Gymea from 7pm to 9pm.
Numbers are limited, therefore bookings are essential.
For more information about the forum please contact the EDF office by phoning (02) 9412 4499 or via email at email@example.com
